WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Carson Daly revealed that “Today” anchors enjoy holiday cocktails, early happy hours and memorable nights out together.
- Laura Jarrett joked that gatherings become more interesting after the men leave for the afternoon.
- Savannah Guthrie previously said she discovered a missing molar after the company’s annual holiday party.
- Daly was named permanent coanchor of “Saturday Today” alongside Jarrett, while continuing his weekday hosting duties.
Carson Daly is lifting the curtain on the “Today” cast’s festive antics, revealing what happens after the cameras stop rolling and the anchors head out together during the holiday season.
The gatherings apparently involve more than polite office conversation. Speaking exclusively with Page Six on Thursday from the Today Studio, Daly acknowledged that drinks are part of the celebration.
“We definitely have some holiday cocktails,” Daly admitted.
Laura Jarrett, his fellow “Saturday Today” anchor, offered another revealing detail about the group’s happy hours. According to Jarrett, those gatherings typically begin around 1 p.m.
That early start can lead to a long day for some members of the team. Daly said he often departs before the gathering has truly wound down, only to hear about the later adventures when he returns to work.
“I leave at three, and I come into work the next day, and there are stories about you guys staying there, and Ubers, and all kinds of stuff,” Daly divulged. “So, we have a good time when we get together.”
Jarrett suggested Daly may be missing the most entertaining part of the occasion. “The boys leave at one point in the afternoon, and then that’s when things really get interesting,” she joked.
Drinks are not the cast’s only holiday tradition. The anchors also mark the festive season with a white elephant gift exchange, adding presents to their lively group celebrations.
Daly is also not the only “Today” personality with a memorable story about partying with coworkers. Savannah Guthrie previously revealed that she once lost a tooth during the company’s annual holiday party.
Guthrie recounted the episode during a July 2024 appearance on “Watch What Happens Live.” Her description similarly pointed to an unusually early start for the annual celebration.
“When you’re at the TODAY show Christmas party, it starts at, like, 3 p.m. Lot of day drinking. It was — I don’t know,” Guthrie said at the time.
The next morning brought an unexpected discovery. Guthrie said she woke up and realized that one of her molars was missing.
“I had, like, a blank space. It’s weird,” Guthrie said at the time.
Daly’s revelations arrived on a major day for his own career at “Today.” Page Six spoke with him just hours after he was named the permanent coanchor of “Saturday Today.”
He joins Jarrett on the program, which also features anchor Joe Fryer and meteorologist Angie Lassman. Daly, 53, will continue hosting “Today” during the week while becoming part of the Saturday team.
“I’m thrilled to add ‘Saturday Today’ to my weekday morning schedule,” Daly said in a statement. “My kids asked if I’ll still make pancakes. I told them yes, but I’ll be making them for Laura, Joe and Angie instead. I’m equal parts grateful and excited for this opportunity.”
Libby Leist, executive vice president of Today and Lifestyle, celebrated Daly’s expanded role and his long history with the program. She said he has been an integral member of the “Today” family for the past 13 years.
“Carson has been an integral part of the ‘Today’ family for the past 13 years, and we are thrilled that our viewers get to spend one more day of the week with him,” Leist said in a statement.
“Carson and Laura make a great team, and we can’t wait for this fresh new chapter of ‘Saturday Today,’” she added.
Daly’s colleagues also toasted the announcement during Thursday’s installment of Jenna Bush Hager’s “Morning Boost” segment. Daly, Al Roker, Craig Melvin and Sheinelle Jones raised pints of Guinness beer to celebrate his new assignment.
Guthrie praised the former “Total Request Live” host during the segment and told the audience that Daly is “like a brother” to her. She also compared his presence on the show to essential seasoning.
“I always say to anyone who will listen that Carson is like salt and pepper on a meal. He makes everything taste better; he makes every segment he’s in pop,” she said.
“You bring so much love and light, and I am so happy, so cheers to you,” Guthrie added, capping a celebratory day that mixed a new Saturday role with colorful stories about the cast’s holiday fun.
