WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Kamala Harris mistakenly introduced incumbent Sen. Jon Ossoff as Georgia’s “next” senator before correcting herself.
- Harris criticized the Trump administration’s tariffs, war and cuts to Medicaid and food stamps.
- She praised Ossoff’s grassroots volunteers and offered extended advice about leadership, careers and serving as a role model.
- Trump and JD Vance also headlined campaign rallies as early voting approached its Friday conclusion in several states.
Former Vice President Kamala Harris arrived at a Thursday campaign event to boost Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff in Georgia, then stumbled over the basic fact at the center of the rally. Ossoff is already serving as the senator whose campaign volunteers Harris was addressing, as reported by The New York Post.
Harris opened the small rally by saying, “Let’s hear it for Jon Ossoff.” Her next line initially sounded as though Ossoff were a new candidate seeking the office rather than the incumbent fighting to remain there.
“The next … and continuing senator from the state of Georgia,” Harris continued. The former vice president caught herself, but only after briefly implying that Ossoff was not already serving in the Senate.

The verbal stumble supplied an awkward opening to what became a short campaign speech for Ossoff. Harris has recently been on the stump for Democrats in Nevada, Mississippi, New Hampshire and Wisconsin, according to the source account.
After recovering from the Ossoff mix-up, Harris turned her attention to the Trump administration. She criticized its “reckless tariffs,” a “war nobody asked for,” and cuts to Medicaid and food stamps.
Harris also devoted much of her appearance to thanking the grassroots volunteers and offering them broader life advice. “I came here today to thank you in advance for all you will do in your lifetime,” she told the group.
She described the campaign volunteers as “fellow members of the Role Model Club.” Harris then expanded upon that label, shifting the speech from campaign politics into an extended pep talk about influence, responsibility and personal conduct.
“The Role Model Club, we’re all in it, and in the Role Model Club sometimes it can be weighty,” Harris explained. The remarks became a central portion of her brief appearance before the Ossoff volunteers.
“But the thing about being a role model,” Harris continued, “is in the process of pursuing your excellence, with all the hard work that requires, you are lifting up folks you don’t even know.”
Harris told the volunteers their actions could inspire people they might never personally encounter. “You are lifting up folks who may never know your name or mine, folks you may never meet, but because they are aware of what you are and what you do, they are forever inspired, and that is a great gift you are giving our country.”
The former vice president then appeared ready to bring her remarks to a close. Ossoff’s supporters encouraged her to continue speaking, however, and Harris obliged by reaching for another round of career guidance.

“OK, I got some more advice,” she cackled. Rather than ending the appearance, Harris began describing moments when people might find themselves surrounded by others who do not share their appearance or life experience.
She then said, “In your careers, there will probably be many moments when you are in a room where you are the only person like you. The only person who looks like you, the only person who has had your life experience, but one of the things I require you to remember when you walk in that room: I require you to be you.”
The Georgia gathering was one of several campaign events featuring prominent national political figures as early voting neared its conclusion in several states. The rallies placed Harris, President Trump and Vice President JD Vance on the campaign trail in different states.
Earlier Thursday, Trump spoke at a campaign rally in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He appeared in support of Republican Sen. Darline Graham during her competitive reelection race against Democratic challenger Annie Andrews.
Vance, meanwhile, headlined a midterm rally in Weatherford, Texas. His appearance supported Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton, adding another major administration figure to the campaign push.
The rallies came as early voting was scheduled to wrap up Friday in several states. Harris used her Georgia stop to promote Ossoff, criticize the Trump administration, and dispense advice, but her opening blunder ensured the event began with a classic verbal cleanup.
@KamalaHarris on @ossoff in Macon, GA: "He is someone who is so skilled, who is so talented, who is always lifting up the voices of the people. One of the things I love about Jon is he has the ability to deconstruct and break down the things that seem like, 'Goodness, Lord, what is going on there?' And he has a way of helping us understand what's behind it all.
The way he has been lifting up and exposing the corruption of this most callous, corrupt, and incompetent presidential administration in the history of America is extraordinary." — lindsay ️ (@virtueemoir29) October 29, 2026
