Cuban regime representatives erupted at the United Nations on Tuesday as U.S. Ambassador Mike Waltz presented evidence of the ruling Castro family’s lavish lifestyle and condemned the communist government’s repression, corruption, and disastrous policies.
The delegation, which included Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez, shouted, slammed its table, and approached the stage during Waltz’s remarks. The scene resembled what Cubans call an “act of repudiation,” a mob tactic used to shame and intimidate political dissidents.
The clash unfolded as Waltz opposed the 2026 edition of the U.N.’s annual resolution demanding an end to the U.S. “embargo” on Cuba. He rejected the regime’s longstanding argument that the embargo caused Cuba’s humanitarian crisis.
Waltz instead blamed nearly seven decades of communist policies for bringing the island nation close to complete ruin. He also highlighted the contrast between the suffering of ordinary Cubans and the luxury enjoyed by members of the Castro family.

Among the materials presented were images of luxury Rolex watches worn by late dictator Fidel Castro. Waltz also displayed photographic evidence of private Castro family properties, including the 14,000 square meter Nave Pilar seaside retreat in Varadero.

Another property was described as a private six-bedroom compound with custom woodwork made from cedar imported from the Amazon Rainforest. The ambassador also presented a map of Cayo Piedra, the Castro family’s private island resort in Cuba.
The Cayo Piedra property features a floating restaurant, a swimming pool, and a “lagoon for pet dolphins,” according to the presentation. Those comforts stood in sharp contrast to the hardship endured by Cubans after decades of continued communist rule.

Citing reporting from Martí Noticias, the presentation also included photographic evidence of the lavish lifestyle of Sandro Castro, the “influencer” grandson of nonagenarian dictator Raúl Castro.
Rodríguez and the Cuban delegation reacted furiously, pounding the delegation’s table and demanding a point of order. Representatives of the regime then moved toward the stage and yelled at Waltz while he continued speaking.
Waltz refused to retreat and told those present that Rodríguez would not intimidate him in the United States as he intimidates Cuban political prisoners. “You understand who you’re dealing with? This is America! Back up,” Waltz told Rodríguez after the foreign minister accused him of being a “liar.”

Waltz later posted additional footage on social media and said Cuban officials had tried to intimidate U.N. staff into cutting his microphone. According to Waltz, when a U.S. official noticed what was happening, a Cuban representative threatened that person instead.

Waltz spokesman J.P. Freire told the Daily Mail that a Cuban representative tried to snatch away the phone he was using to record the confrontation. Freire said the official “used ‘the same intimidation’ of the clerks to cut off Waltz’s microphone last time.”
The ambassador continued his presentation despite the disruption and vowed to keep exposing the Castro family’s corruption. He argued that Cuban communists blame capitalism for the island’s misery, “Yet they apparently have no problem benefiting from the global luxury goods marketplace.”

Waltz then presented further evidence involving Fidel Castro’s grandchildren, including Tony Castro, enjoying European vacations and driving luxury vehicles. He said there was nothing wrong with those activities “unless your family has spent nearly seven decades denying these same opportunities to everyone else.”
“So think about the hypocrisy,” Waltz told those attending the session. “Millions of Cubans have risked their lives escaping that island. Many on rafts across the Florida Straits, and ordinary Cubans have struggled to leave.”
Waltz also said he possessed extensive photographic evidence showing that Cuban regime figurehead Miguel Díaz-Canel enjoys a lavish lifestyle while “blaming capitalism for his country’s misery — yet takes quite advantage of it.” Shortly after the altercation, Secretary of State Marco Rubio published the map identifying the location of Cayo Piedra.

The confrontation came days after Cuban communist officials harassed and threatened anti communist dissidents and former political prisoners visiting U.N. headquarters in New York. They were attending an event related to Cuba hosted by Waltz, with Assembly of the Cuban Resistance coordinator and Breitbart News contributor Orlando Gutiérrez-Boronat among those present.
The U.N. was reportedly expected to vote Wednesday, October 28, on that year’s resolution opposing the United States’ “embargo” on Cuba. The spectacle on Tuesday left the regime’s representatives visibly furious as Waltz put the Castro family’s privileged lifestyle before the international body.
