President Trump branded Bill Maher a “complete, total loser” and a “sleazebag” in a sprawling Truth Social attack that stretched across 1,322 words. He also claimed the comedian “looked like hell” during one of their recent dinners, as reported by The New York Post.

The Sunday post targeted the 70 year old “Real Time” host after Maher claimed Friday that Trump “has the lowest approval rating of any midterm candidate ever.” Maher also joked that their four-hour dinner on Oct. 15 lasted longer than Katie Zacharia’s stint as press secretary.

Trump opened by mocking Maher and his HBO program, declaring, “Let’s talk about this COMPLETE AND TOTAL LOSER, Bill Maher.” He said the show had low ratings and argued that HBO was no longer the exciting network it once was.

The president then turned his attention to producer Chuck LaBella, who worked with Maher on his former ABC show “Politically Incorrect.” Trump said LaBella also worked on “The Apprentice” as a “gofer” before rising through NBC alongside others connected to the program.

Trump argued that the success of “The Apprentice” helped build numerous careers. While acknowledging that some people credit the show with building his own career, Trump insisted he would have won the presidency without it.

According to Trump, LaBella repeatedly told him how much Maher loved and respected him while seeking some form of meeting. Trump said he eventually agreed to meet Maher but would not appear on his show, despite claiming that Maher wants him to do so “DESPARATELY.”

Trump also rejected Maher’s comments about his approval rating and accused him of citing “fake polls.” He claimed a CNN poll placed his Republican Party support at 98 and 99%, compared with Ronald Reagan at 86%.

The president cited another CNN poll that he said asked respondents to identify the most popular person in Republican Party history. Trump said he received 53%, while Reagan received 18% and Abraham Lincoln received 8%.

Trump then revisited two White House dinners involving Maher. Trump, Maher, Kid Rock and UFC chief Dana White dined together on Mar. 31, 2025, while Trump, Maher and Stephen A. Smith met on Oct. 15.

Trump claimed LaBella and Rock had called him “incessantly” while seeking a meeting with Maher, whom he initially considered a “goofball.” He also alleged that Maher had effectively invited himself to the White House.

Describing the first encounter, Trump said Maher appeared “very nervous” and asked for a drink. He also claimed the comedian had a bruised eye and nose area, adding, “But it wasn’t me!”

Trump said LaBella later made 10 calls while trying to arrange another meeting. He also called Maher a “major pothead” and claimed he wanted to warn the comedian that marijuana was bad for his health.

Turning to the later dinner, Trump claimed Maher was drunk and carried alcohol while walking through the White House. He disputed Maher’s timeline, saying the gathering lasted two hours or less rather than four hours, while adding that everyone appeared happy.

He claimed Maher was initially friendly afterward before returning to his previous criticism, and accused the comedian of catering to a base “mostly composed of Losers.”

The president also responded to Maher’s joke about replacing the White House press briefing room with a swimming pool. Trump said he had never intended to build a pool there, though he was considering moving the press and using the location for needed space.

Trump praised Karoline Leavitt’s appearance on Maher’s show while accusing the host of asking biased and foolish questions. He also attacked Maher’s comments about illegal voters in California, claiming 20,000 had recently been found and that the figure could exceed 1,000,000.

Trump ended by telling Maher and LaBella not to call him and again accused the comedian of using a machine to generate audience laughter. He declared that he would never watch Maher’s show again and signed off, “Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

Factba.se said the approximately 1,300 word message was Trump’s longest post among 97,455 cumulative social media posts since 2011. It was about 600 words longer than his previous second longest post, published Sept. 30 about South Korean investments worth $200 billion in the US.

Maher had not responded to Trump’s essay, though he proclaimed, “Yeah I did it again bitches,” while discussing the dinner. Just two days earlier, Trump had called the meal “great,” described it as “very informative,” and said he actually liked Maher.
