The mansion search followed an earlier federal operation involving Swalwell in August. During that operation, the FBI searched his Washington, D.C., residence and seized his electronic devices at San Francisco International Airport.
Sources familiar with the August incident said that operation was related to a probe into sexual misconduct. Swalwell was not arrested or detained during the airport encounter.
At least five women have accused Swalwell of sexual misconduct or rape. One of the accusers was identified as a former staffer.
The accusations contributed to a stunning political downfall for Swalwell, who resigned from Congress earlier this year. He also abandoned his campaign for governor of California as the allegations engulfed his political career.
Swalwell had spent 13 years in Congress before leaving office in April. His departure came after he was threatened with expulsion from the House.
The former lawmaker has denied the sexual misconduct accusations and pledged to fight them. At the same time, his resignation statement acknowledged unspecified mistakes without detailing them.
Swalwell addressed the allegations directly when announcing his resignation.
"I will fight the serious false allegations made against me," Swalwell wrote at the time of his resignation. "However, I must take responsibility and ownership for the mistakes I did make."
The Beverly Hills raid also came during renewed scrutiny of Swalwell’s past relationship with Christine "Fang Fang" Fang, a suspected Chinese intelligence operative. The White House declassified documents related to an FBI investigation of that relationship earlier in the week.

According to declassified FBI records released Monday by the White House, Swalwell told federal agents that he had "physical relations" with Fang on a handful of occasions. His account in those records placed their final sexual encounter in March 2015.
The White House’s new Government Transparency Task Force released the documents. Those records offered details about FBI interviews with Swalwell concerning his relationship with Fang.
The FBI first interviewed Swalwell in May 2015 about the relationship. Agents interviewed him again in March 2016, according to the records described in the released material.
Fang had suspected ties to China’s Ministry of State Security. Her parents were also reportedly considered known Chinese intelligence officers.
The newly released records placed fresh attention on a relationship that had already subjected Swalwell to scrutiny. That development arrived alongside the separate sexual misconduct allegations, his resignation from Congress, his abandoned gubernatorial campaign and the latest federal search in Beverly Hills.
Tuesday’s raid represented another major federal action connected to the former congressman after the August searches and device seizure. Authorities did not arrest or detain Swalwell during the earlier operation.
The federal activity now spans searches at Swalwell’s Washington residence, the seizure of his devices at San Francisco International Airport and the raid at the California mansion. The investigations and document releases have kept the former lawmaker under scrutiny months after his exit from Congress.
Swalwell’s resignation ended a congressional career that lasted 13 years. His promise to fight what he called false allegations now unfolds as federal authorities continue investigative activity connected to the former California congressman.
