President Trump’s rally at Clemson University erupted into chaos Wednesday night as at least 12 hecklers interrupted his remarks, and two were assaulted on camera by angry rally attendees. The persistent disruptions repeatedly pulled attention away from Trump’s political message, as reported by The New York Post.
One scrawny male protester was removed by sheriff’s deputies after an older Trump supporter beat him near the stage. Trump watched the confrontation unfold and then singled out the supporter from the stage.
“Who’s the guy that threw the punch? You are!” Trump said as the crowd responded. He compared the older man to Evander “the Real Deal” Holyfield, the heavyweight boxing champion who won the title four times and attended the rally.
Trump warned that hecklers take a serious risk when disrupting one of his events. “They don’t realize it’s really dangerous to do that,” he said.
“It takes courage to do that at a Trump rally. He got whacked. Just he started, you know, that screech, whatever the hell they do, whatever they practice. And as he’s in the process of the screech, he got whacked!” Trump added.

A separate confrontation involved an earlier heckler wearing a suit and tie. Another older man followed him outside the expo center’s main floor and smacked him on the head.

It remained unclear whether either of the men accused of assaulting the hecklers was arrested. The large number of protesters and the scuffles that followed were unusual for a Trump rally and recalled the chaotic events of his 2016 campaign as the Republican candidate.
The precise messages shouted by the hecklers were difficult to hear inside the venue. One young man, however, displayed two middle fingers toward the president before being removed.
Trump traveled to South Carolina to support appointed Sen. Darline Graham, a Republican seeking a full term lasting six years. Graham filled the seat of her late brother, Lindsey Graham, in July.
The president went after Graham’s Democratic opponent, Annie Andrews, a pediatrician who was performing surprisingly well in polling in the deeply conservative state. Trump claimed Andrews “supports giving sex toys and other obscene materials to seriously confuse young people and children.”
Andrews’ campaign did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment. Trump also referred to the Democrat as “Tranny Annie” and claimed she was “a fanatical transgender activist.”
“She’s really a rabid advocate for taxpayer-funded child sexual mutilation,” Trump said. “She’s a mutilizer. You know what a mutilizer is? That’s a person that doesn’t do good things.”
Andrews disputed key portions of Trump’s attack in comments to Forbes last month. “I don’t support biological men playing in women’s sports and I also don’t support and have never performed gender surgery on minors,” she said.
Trump also promoted his plan for a $5,000 payment to every American if Republicans retain control of Congress. He received applause while listing what he described as his accomplishments since reclaiming power last year.
Those accomplishments included new tax cuts and a dramatic reduction in illegal immigration along the US border with Mexico. Yet the South Carolina Senate contest and Trump’s broader record repeatedly took a back seat as heckler after heckler interrupted the event.
Trump complained that the disruptions kept landing at inconvenient moments in his speech. “It’s always right at my punchline,” he said.
“I’ve had three punchlines, and three of them — they time them beautifully,” Trump added. The rally’s planned political pitch had become a running battle between the president, protesters, and supporters willing to respond with more than boos.
