Jay-Z has reportedly decided that the next major act selected by Jay-Z should be Jay-Z. According to Puck, the rap mogul plans to headline the Super Bowl LXI Halftime Show at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, as reported by Breitbart.
The decision would put Jay-Z directly in the spotlight at the enormously watched music event he has helped curate since 2019. His Roc Nation entertainment company has been responsible for selecting performers and planning the NFL production.
Insiders say Jay-Z will take the stage when the game arrives at SoFi Stadium on Feb. 14, 2027. The venue is located in Inglewood, California.
Jay-Z Chooses Himself to Be The 2027 Super Bowl Halftime Show Performer: Report https://t.co/fdUh81v7Ow
— TMZ (@TMZ) October 20, 2026
The development follows earlier reports that Jay-Z was considering several other prominent performers for the 2027 show. Those possibilities included Harry Styles, Miley Cyrus, and Justin Bieber, but Puck states that Jay-Z has chosen himself instead.
If this proves accurate, the appearance will mark Jay-Z’s first performance during a Super Bowl. It would also answer the long-running question of when the man selecting halftime headliners might finally select himself.
The potential booking does not coincide with a fresh Jay-Z album. The rapper has not released new music since 2017, when his 13th studio album, 4:44, achieved double platinum status.
Jay-Z has nevertheless remained active as a live performer. He recently completed his 2026 concert tour, giving the reported Super Bowl plan a connection to his continuing stage appearances despite the lengthy gap between albums.
Two July shows at Yankee Stadium played before sellout crowds and generated $42 million in ticket sales. Those concerts demonstrated the substantial business surrounding his live performances during the year.
Jay-Z also performed a sold-out concert in Paris in September. According to the report, that single appearance earned him a $12 million paycheck.
The NFL first turned to Jay-Z and Roc Nation to produce the halftime show in 2019. That agreement arrived after several years marked by player protests described as anti-American and accusations of racism against the league.
The NFL and Roc Nation renewed their partnership in 2024. The renewed arrangement is scheduled to remain in effect through 2029, keeping Jay-Z’s company involved in planning the prominent Super Bowl showcase.
Roc Nation’s choices have not escaped controversy during that run. The selection of Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny for last year’s show triggered heavy criticism, according to the source.
Bad Bunny also announced that he would not perform his show in English. A competing halftime show sponsored by conservative activist organization TPUSA subsequently attracted millions of viewers.

After the game, television ratings service Nielsen reported a sharp audience drop during Bad Bunny’s halftime performance. According to Nielsen, the NFL lost 39% of its audience while the rapper was performing.
The Jay-Z selection would therefore shift the focus from a disputed previous booking to the man overseeing the choices. Rather than handing the coveted platform to another rumored contender, Jay-Z appears ready to claim it personally.
Super Bowl Sunday falls on Feb. 14, 2027, which is Valentine’s Day and part of Presidents’ Day weekend. The game will be shown on Disney-owned networks ESPN and ABC, while streaming will be available through the ESPN app and Disney+.
